Liverpool are not expecting Mohamed Salah to 'down tools' if he refuses to pen their next contract offer at Anfield, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Salah is about to enter the final 12 months of his £225,000-per-week deal, resulting in huge uncertainty over where his long-term future lies.

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Liverpool are preparing to make a final 'take it or leave it' contract offer as they continue in their attempts to tie Salah down to fresh terms.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, the attacker insisted that negotiations over a new agreement are not solely focused on securing a significant wage hike.

Salah has also reiterated his desire to remain at Anfield and is not fazed by the possibility of entering the final 12 months of his current contract.

However, the 30-year-old has reportedly been looking to secure a deal worth £500,000-per-week, meaning he would comfortably become the highest-earner in Liverpool’s history.

It is understood the Merseyside giants will not be held to ransom after failing to find a compromise so far and are eager to avoid breaking their wage structure.

Jones believes Liverpool are aware that they are unlikely to reach an agreement with Salah if he refuses to put pen-to-paper on their upcoming contract offer.

However, the transfer insider feels Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is confident the 83-cap Egypt international's performances will not worsen despite uncertainty over his future.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "They understand that if he doesn't want to sign up to this contract, then he'll probably leave.

"It'll be a shame, especially to lose him on a free, but at least if he agrees to stay throughout this season, they're confident that Mo Salah will give them everything.

"They don't feel like he's a player that's going to down tools."

An imminent Salah departure would come as a huge surprise, particularly considering fellow attacking star Sadio Mane has just completed a £35million move to Bayern Munich.
