John Cena has been confirmed by Vince McMahon to be making his return to the ring on next week’s edition of Monday Night Raw after spending a year away from the ring.

He’s been incredibly busy in his time away, including starring as the protagonist in HBO’s hit show, ‘Peacemaker.’ So he certainly won’t have been bored while not being in his more natural habitat.

It’s not the first time he has been away for an extended period of time and will actually feature on the list of top 10 most shocking WWE returns.

Superstars sometimes need time off to let their body recover from the stress and toll it’s put under and sometimes from serious injury.

10. Chris Jericho - Royal Rumble 2013

Chris Jericho made a shock appearance as the second entrant in the 2013 Royal Rumble as Dolph Ziggler was waiting in the ring. Jericho was away from WWE at the time to tour with his band Fozzy, hence the shock and why it’s so memorable.

9. Seth Rollins – Extreme Rules 2016

After tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus at a live event match, it looked like Seth Rollins would be sidelined for months. However, after being forced to vacate his World Heavyweight Championship, he returned early, entering the ring to get one over on the new champ, Roman Reigns.

8. Trish Stratus – Women’s Royal Rumble 2018

Trish Stratus was the final entrant in the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble in 2018, the Hall of Famer made her return to the ring after 12 years away. She was one of a number of legends to make a one off comeback in the match like Torrie Wilson and Michelle McCool did.

7. Shane McMahon – WWE 2016

In 2016, Shane McMahon shocked the WWE universe by returning to the ring after a six year absence to focus on the business side of wrestling. He did so at the perfect time with WrestleMania quickly approaching.

As mentioned, John Cena makes the list, returning from injury much earlier than expected. He’d had several months on the treatment table after a pectoral tear. However, he shocked the entire crowd and even Triple H in the ring himself!

Although not in the capacity many would have liked to see, the Rock made a huge return to WrestleMania 27, hosting the night and using the skills he learned as a Hollywood star to entertain the fans in attendance.

3. Bret Hart – WWE 2010

After leaving the WWE shockingly and he was filmed breaking every piece of equipment related to the brand in his house. Bret Hart returned in 2010 to set up a grudge match at WrestleMania 26 with Vince McMahon.

He returned as the American Badass at the Judgement Day pay-per-view event whilst The Rock and Triple H went head-to-head. This was the first time the Deadman was seen without the hat and fog, but instead a bandana was worn as he made his way to the ring on a motorcycle.
