Alexander Volkanovski is set to defend his UFC Featherweight Championship this weekend at UFC 276, but he has also revealed his Lightweight division aspirations and hopes of becoming a champ-champ in the company.

Becoming a Champion in the UFC is already a difficult task, but being able to hold belts in the two weight divisions simultaneously takes a fighter to the pantheon of the greats to ever step foot in the octagon.

Ahead of Volkanovski vs Holloway 3, the reigning Featherweight Champion revealed that he has plans to move up to the 155-pound division to challenge the likes of Charles Oliveira.

Here’s what Alexander Volkanovski had to say ahead of his UFC 276 bout against Max Holloway regarding a move to the Lightweight division.

Alexander Volkanovski on UFC Lightweight Division

Speaking at the UFC 276 Press Conference, the 145-pound Champion revealed that he is hoping to become a champ in two weight divisions.

He said: “I’ve talked about this third fight with Max being a big one. After this one, I go do my thing.

“It’s gonna give me time to go at least have a chance to go for that double-champ status. That’s what I want. I’m gonna do what I plan on doing and that’s what I’m gonna call for.

“When I look at Oliveira, (he’s a) dangerous fighter. A dangerous fighter, a lot of people love watching him fight, exciting fights. But obviously, he showed that he can be beaten.

“He showed that in his last few. Even if they were exciting, he was almost beat in every one of those times. The thing is with me, I ain’t gonna give him the opportunities. If I land big on someone, they ain’t gonna get the opportunity to land big on me.”

There have been a number of champ-champ fighters in the history of the UFC, including Conor McGregor, Amanda Nunes, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo.

Volkanovski more than has an opportunity at getting to his goal, and a bout with Charles Oliveira would certainly be a box office attraction.

Max Holloway is however the challenge that awaits the 145-pound Champ this weekend, and it should be another epic contest to finish the trilogy!
