Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva will be ‘starting to ask questions’ over his game time and future prospects, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The 19-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations during his two-year stint with the Midlands outfit and has often found himself behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order.

Several eyebrows were raised when Wolves splashed out a club-record £35.6 million fee to bring Silva to Molineux after he’d played just 21 senior games for FC Porto.

Nevertheless, the Midlands outfit handed the Portugal Under-21 international a five-year contract, and chairman Jeff Shi made no effort to hide his delight at getting the deal over the line.

"Our recruitment team have been watching Fabio since he played for Portugal Under-16s," Shi said. "They feel he has always been the best number nine coming through his age group anywhere in Europe."

In his maiden campaign for Wolves, Silva registered four goals and three assists in his 36 appearances across all competitions, starting 11 Premier League fixtures.

But the teenager was unable to build on that last term, failing to find the back of the net in his 26 outings while setting up only three strikes as he had to settle for a place on the bench more often than not.

What has Holland said about Silva?

Silva ended the season on a positive note, though, bagging a hat-trick against Liechtenstein’s Under-21s in a 9-0 thrashing, and Holland believes the forward may be beginning to question his current role at Wolves.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Questions will eventually start regarding when Fabio Silva will get his proper chance.

“Obviously, he scored a hat-trick recently, so he'll be starting to ask questions, and he's got to start answering them because they paid a lot of money for him, and he's not set the world on fire yet.”

Should Wolves give Silva another chance?

With three years remaining on Silva’s £80,000-per-week contract, finding a buyer may prove difficult for Wolves should they decide to try and offload him permanently.

Instead, a loan switch away from the club may be the best decision for all parties involved, allowing the 6 foot 1 ace to develop away from the spotlight.

It’s important to remember that Silva is still in his formative years as a player in one of the most pressurised positions on the pitch and the best is surely still to come from the attacker.
