Uniforms are something very special around the NFL and whilst there are some that might appear similar from a distance, each tell their own story.

Whether it be the black and gold of the Pittsburgh Steelers, colours that are shared with the city's two other professional sports teams of the Pirates and Penguins, or the Dallas Cowboys and the iconic star on the side of the helmet.

Or perhaps you want to go for something a little bit more modern like the Seattle Seahawks with their more striking colour scheme that became synonymous with their rise to prominence during the ‘Legion of Boom’ era.

Jerseys in the NFL also tend to have a lot more longevity than those of soccer clubs around the world that change every year, and whilst each year tends to bring some changes, whether it be a slight tweak to the colour scheme or a full-blow rebuild, for the most part, uniforms are allowed to stick around and be embedded into the fanbase.

NFL policy for the most part means that teams wear their coloured jerseys at home and white on the road, but there have been occasions where teams decide to wear white at home for whatever purpose, be it historic or just out of choice.

What the NFL has seen an increase on in recent years has been the third or ‘alternate’ jersey for teams to wear on one off occasions during the year, and these can take on a number of different looks.

The New England Patriots for instance have decided to pay homage to their past with their selection this year as they have brought back the red colour scheme that pays homage to the early years of the franchise.

News of which got us thinking, which teams have the best uniform combination, taking into consideration home, away and alternate.

Using Tiermaker, we have ranked them into the following categories:

Work of art:

The cream of the crop and don’t need any changes

Slick to look at:

Very good, but just missing that something to put it into the upper echelon

Good, but not great:

Middle of the road, not a disaster but could do with some work

Needs some work:

Needs more than just a slight tweak to make them look good

Needs to be scrapped:

Better luck next time, need to start again

So with that being said, here is the list that we came up with.

Work of art: New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders

Slick to look at: Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, Green Bay Packers

Good, but not great: Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, New England Patriots

Needs some work: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings

Needs to be scrapped: Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns
