Celtic: 16 y/o with 'huge potential' would be 'big signing' at Parkhead

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou celebrates

Celtic will pull off a ‘big signing’ if they succeed in luring talented Bristol City teenager Reuben McAllister to Parkhead this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ange Postecoglou took over as the Hoops’ manager last summer and it appears he is now looking to build his squad for the future.

What’s the latest news involving McAllister?

According to Football Scotland, Celtic are watching 16-year-old McAllister, who is coming through the ranks at Championship side Bristol City.

The report suggests the Hoops, who were crowned the Scottish top flight’s title winners for a 52nd time last season and also got their hands on the Scottish League Cup, are keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder.

However, it is understood that arch-rivals Rangers are also keen to take the teenage starlet north of the border.

Premier League sides Aston Villa and Newcastle United are yet more admirers mulling over whether to test Bristol City’s resolve before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.

McAllister has shot onto the radar of numerous clubs having first featured for his current employers’ under-23 side at the age of 15, emphasising that he is regarded as a rising star.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about McAllister?

O’Rourke believes McAllister has a bright future ahead of him and would be a shrewd signing by Celtic.

However, the journalist is aware of the Glasgow giants facing stiff competition for the playmaker’s signature.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “McAllister is a very young player and I don’t think he would be somebody for the first team right now.

“But, obviously, he is a talented young midfielder and I think quite a few clubs – even in the Premier League – are looking at him right now.

“He is somebody with huge potential ahead of him as well and if Celtic were able to win the race for his services, that would be a big signing for the club.”

Why should McAllister choose Celtic over his other suitors?

Postecoglou has started to build something special at Celtic, with him guiding the club to 42 wins in his first 60 matches at the helm.

Clinching the Scottish Premiership title means the Hoops will be back in the Champions League in the upcoming campaign, making them an even more attractive proposition.

Celtic are a huge club, with the lifting of silverware being a regular occurrence, so linking up with Postecoglou’s charges would surely be a tantalising prospect for McAllister.
