Manchester United's new manager Erik ten Hag thinks there is more to come from the side's current attack, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils' front line rarely clicked last term as United finished down in sixth place, meaning they missed out on Champions League football.

How did Man United's attack fare last season?

After returning to Old Trafford in August, Cristiano Ronaldo delivered the goods once again, scoring 24 goals across all competitions.

However, Bruno Fernandes (10) was the only other player to hit double figures, while England duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho scored just five goals apiece.

United finished the campaign with just 57 league goals in total, 42 fewer than eventual champions Manchester City.

What has Jones said about ten Hag's thoughts on United's attack?

It was recently reported by Italian outlet La Repubblica that Ronaldo is unhappy at United as his teammates struggled to meet his high standards last term.

However, Jones has claimed that ten Hag is optimistic that his forward players will give a better account of themselves next season.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Ten Hag will look at that crop and be like: ‘Ronaldo, 100%, can still score goals at this level.’ And these guys can definitely step up. So, I find it interesting that Ronaldo is supposedly not happy. But I’ve heard that ten Hag thinks there’s so much more goal-power there than they actually were getting out of them last season.”

Does this mean that United won't be bolstering their attack this summer?

It still appears that United will strengthen their attack in the current transfer window as they have been heavily linked with Ajax winger Antony.

Ten Hag knows the Brazilian well from their time together at the Dutch champions, and it has been reported that Antony is keen to join his former coach in England.

However, even if United do sign Antony, it does seem that ten Hag will give opportunities to the team's underperforming players from last season to prove that they are good enough to feature in his side regularly.

This will be music to the ears of Rashford and Sancho, who looked well off the pace at times in 2021/22, and it may also improve their chances of making Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad in November.
