What is the latest news involving Ward-Prowse?

According to Claret & Hugh, West Ham will have to pay Southampton £70m if they want to sign Ward-Prowse this summer.

The website claims that Tottenham have gone in for the 27-year-old before and when they did, they were quoted the above figure.

Prior, the Daily Star reported Ward-Prowse would cost £60m, so it will be interesting to see how much he goes for if he does decide to leave St Mary’s in the current window.

£60m-£70m is obviously a lot of money, but Ward-Prowse is so important for Southampton, scoring 10 league goals last season.

What has O’Rourke said about Ward-Prowse?

O’Rourke thinks everyone at West Ham would be happy with the signing of Ward-Prowse.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “He’s a top professional, Ward-Prowse. He’s been very loyal to Southampton and he’s been a top midfielder in the Premier League for a number of years now, not just for his goals but with his overall displays as well.

“So if West Ham were able to pull off a deal for someone like James Ward-Prowse, it would be a brilliant deal for everybody connected with the club.”

Is Ward-Prowse worth £70m?

Probably to Southampton but it is has hard to imagine West Ham or any other club spending that kind of money on him.

While Ward-Prowse is obviously deadly from set-pieces, scoring a total of four free-kicks in the Premier League last term, does his all-round game warrant the Hammers dropping £70m on him? You would have to say no, especially with Moyes needing to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Carlos Tevez - West Ham

Which club did Carlos Tevez start his professional career at?

Reports suggest that the Scotsman is targeting Chelsea striker Armando Broja in a potential £30m deal, while he has already brought defender Nayef Aguerd to the London Stadium for the same price. Based on all of that, it would be a shock if West Ham can find £70m now to spend on one player.

By no means does the above imply Ward-Prowse should not be on the east London club’s radar; his Premier League experience alone would make him a very good signing. However, for £70m, it does not make much sense.
