A new era has dawned at Manchester United with Erik ten Hag jetting in to take his place in the managerial hot seat. The role has proven to be somewhat of a cursed chalice since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, with the club lurching from one disappointment to the next since the legendary Scot retired. This time last year, it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was hard at work preparing for the upcoming Premier League season and it looked, on the surface, like he was making all the right moves.Jadon Sancho was signed, with Rafael Varane and his wealth of experience also joining. However, the coup of the summer came when they managed to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to spurn the advances of Manchester City and instead rejoin the ranks at Old Trafford.Fast forward a year, however, and the outlook reads very differently.Solskjaer has long since departed and his glut of shiny new signings, bar Ronaldo, were thoroughly underwhelming over the course of the season.BERGAMO, ITALY - NOVEMBER 02: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manager of Manchester United reacts prior to the UEFA Champions League group F match between Atalanta and Manchester United at Stadio di Bergamo on November 02, 2021 in Bergamo, Italy. Michael van Gerwen has a dig at Manchester United

However, one place they might not have been expecting to be trolled from was the world of darts with superstar Michael van Gerwen also gleefully jumping on the bandwagon.

After Paddy Power posted a tongue-in-cheek tweet naming Van Gerwen as one of United's latest transfer targets, the Dutchman couldn't help himself but have a dig.

Brutal. Absolutely no mercy shown by Mighty Mike.

You can't imagine that United will stay quiet for long but, as the days tick by, the more prone they may become the ill-fated panic buy.

However, ten Hag looks like he has a calm head on his shoulders and won't be phased by the slog the transfer window is proving to be so far.
