The 2022 Wimbledon draw has been made and the likes of Emma Raducanu and Serena Williams have learnt their fate. This year’s competition gets underway next week and there are some enticing first-round matchups across the men’s and the women’s draw. Simona Halep, who won the tournament in 2019, starts her account against former quarter-finalist Karolina Muchova. World number one Iga Swiatek begins her campaign against qualifier Jana Fett. The French Open champion is currently on a run of 35 consecutive wins and is the heavy favourite to claim her third major title at the All England Club. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic has been tipped to defend his Wimbledon title. Find out who he and Rafael Nadal could face here. Despite Swiatek’s dominance of late, fans at Wimbledon are chiefly interested in the fortunes of two players in the women’s draw –– Raducanu and Williams.

The former has become Britain’s newest tennis superstar, having stormed to victory at the US Open last year.

Williams, on the other hand, is well known to those who have frequented SW19 in the past and will be vying for her eighth title at the All England Club.

On paper, both players seemingly have a somewhat favourable draw. Here’s who they could face in each round.

Emma Raducanu’s draw in full

Raducanu is seeded 10th for the competition but faces a tough opening-round match against Alison Van Uytvanck.

The Belgian, who is ranked 46th in the world,  has won five WTA titles so far in her career and is an accomplished grass court player.

If the Brit comes through that contest, she will face either Caroline Garcia or compatriot Yuriko Miyazaki.

Born in Japan, Miyazaki switched to British nationality in March 2022.

Emma Raducanu French Open

Madison Keys could be Raducanu’s first seeded opponent in round three, while this year’s Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins would likely await in round four.

The quarter-finals could see the teenager face world number three Ons Jabeur, who partnered Williams in Eastbourne this week.

However, Jabeur withdrew from the tournament due to injury and it’s unclear how fit she’ll be for Wimbledon.

Anett Kontaveit is the highest-ranked player that Raducanu could meet in the semi-finals, though Jelena Ostapenko and Belinda Bencic will also fancy their chances of reaching that stage.

Should the British number one make the final, then a mouth-watering final against Swiatek is highly possible.

Serena Williams, Ons Jabeur

Serena Wiliams’ draw in full

Williams will start her campaign against world number 121 Harmony Tan.

Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo could await in round two. Williams beat the 25-year-old in doubles last week, though Tormo is a more accomplished singles player.

Round three would likely see Williams face last year’s beaten finalist Karolina Pliskova. The Czech player is a grass court specialist but lost to Britain’s Katie Boulter in Eastbourne this week.

In the last 16, there is a strong chance the 40-year-old could face either Coco Gauff or Amanda Animisova. Both players are rising US stars and it would be fascinating to see the Wimbledon veteran battle the new generation.

Williams Serena

While Halep has been out of form recently, the Romanian still looks like the most likely opponent in the quarter-finals.

Assuming Williams progresses, she would then face her toughest challenge against Swiatek, before facing the winner of the other side of the draw in the final.

Williams remains one Grand Slam title away from equalling Margaret Court’s all-time record.

Will she do it at Wimbledon this year? You never know…
