After the controversial conclusion to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year, Lewis Hamilton kept his cool after losing out on an eighth Drivers' Championship on the very last lap of the season.

Hamilton finished second in 2021 having recorded eight wins and five pole positions. Despite racking up a very impressive 387.5 points in the season, the Mercedes man finished behind Dutchman Max Verstappen by a measly eight points.

The title was decided during the last race of the season and when asked if he was proud of what he has done throughout the campaign, following a heated title race between him and Verstappen, the Brit was quick to praise his rival and team.

"Firstly, congratulations to Max and to his team. I think we did an amazing job this year. Everyone back in the factory and here worked so hard this year and it was difficult this season.

"I'm so proud of them. [I am] So grateful to be the part of the journey with them. And yeah, we gave it everything this last part of the season. We never gave up, that's the most important thing."

He was asked about his hopes of winning the title once again the following year and he kept his composure yet again, answering: "Of course I've been feeling good and grateful in the car this past couple of months. Particularly in the end.

"If I'm honest, we were still in the pandemic and I just really wish that everyone stayed safe and have a good Christmas with all their families. We'll see about next year."

The post-race interview in Abu Dhabi left a lot of F1 fans feeling proud of Hamilton on how he handled the infamous moment.

"How he kept his cool is beyond me," one user posted, whilst another said, "No other driver in F1 ever could do what he did on the podium."

"This is the first time I’ve seen this interview. I would never have acted that composed if I was Lewis," another admitted.

A non-Hamilton fan even applauding his reaction, posting: "I’m not a Hamilton supporter, but this was pure class."

As we all know now, the 2022 season hasn't been kind to Hamilton or Mercedes in general.

The seven-time world champion is currently sixth place in the Drivers' Championship with 77 points.
