Caleb Plant has taken a look back at his November defeat to Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.

In late 2021, the incredibly personal rivalry between Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez was finally settled as they fought to determine the first ever undisputed super middleweight champion.

After an entertaining encounter, in which Canelo largely controlled the pace of the bout, it was the Mexican sensation that landed an eleventh round TKO to ensure he walked away with the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBF and The Ring super middleweight titles.

Canelo went in there looking to make a statement and he certainly did that, bringing an end to Plant’s undefeated run as a pro boxer in the process.

Now, seven months later, the 29-year-old has had plenty of time to reflect and think about what his next step is going to be in the sport.

During an interview with Kate Abdo, Plant opened up on how he feels regarding the loss.

“That’s part of the sport. When you go in there with somebody, most of the time somebody has got to come out with the short end of the stick. I just use it for motivation to get back in the ring again.

“I’ve been letting something heal up, and that’s why I haven’t been back yet.

“I want to get back to my winning ways, and then let the world know why I’ve had to take a little more time off. Until then, I want to keep it under wraps.

“I see myself being [at 168 pounds] for a long time. It’s not as if it’s difficult for me to make weight. I’m going to be here long enough to clear out a division. For any top middleweights that move up, I’m going to be right here.”

Fighting back to the top

While Plant continues to answer questions about David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo, Canelo Alvarez is in a similar position as he also needs to bounce back from disappointment.

His loss to Dmitry Bivol had many wondering whether or not light heavyweight was a step too far for him, and in September, he’ll be moving back down for his long-awaited trilogy fight against Gennady Golovkin.
