Liverpool's greatest ever goal? Gerrard, Origi, Dalglish feature in top 10 fan vote

Divock Origi greatest goal

Liverpool is by far and away one of the most historic clubs in England.

With trophies galore to celebrate and a pantheon of legends unlike any other, the Merseyside club really has left its mark on Premier League and European football.

They came within an inch of writing yet another unprecedented page in the history books this season, falling just a point and a goal short of the much-coveted quadruple in the final week.

Even still, with a domestic cup double under their belt, the most recently concluded campaign will still be remembered fondly by all who are partial to the red half of Merseyside.

In amongst that relentless pursuit of immortality, the Reds scored some fantastic goals, but were any of them worthy of joining the ranks of the greatest-ever strikes at the club?

Well, with precious little football to speak of in the early summer weeks, the club have been running a brilliant countdown of 130 of their best goals to celebrate their 130th anniversary.

Entries 130-11 were ranked by a panel based on the goal’s quality, importance, iconic status and lasting legacy.

Then, after days of showering us with some stone-cold stunners, the club left it up to the fans to decide the ultimate winner with a fan vote for the final 10.

The winner was a truly iconic strike that will live long in the memory of modern-day fans at the club.

While it might not have been a missile from range or a meandering run through the heart of a baffled defensive line, Divock Origi’s second-half goal vs Barcelona in 2019 was a worthy winner.

With Liverpool hounding Barcelona for a winner having already come back from 3-0 down, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quick thinking and work of genius laid it on a plate for Origi.

With the Barcelona defence all but asleep, Origi stroked home to send Anfield into utter raptures and book Liverpool’s spot in the Champions League final.

There they would meet Tottenham and, in typical fashion, it was Origi yet again who would put the game beyond doubt and secure the Reds their sixth European cup.

The rest, as they say, is history.
