MMA is a brutal and bloody sport at the best of times, in the relatively sane and structured realms of the UFC and other similar organisations.
The list of no no’s is relatively short, but there are some. No headbutts, no eye gouging, no biting or spitting, no fish hooking, no hair pulling to name but a few.
The promotors and crowds want action, they want a little bloodshed, and they want aggression, but all within the bounds of the rules set out.
As with all sports and all businesses, there will be those who look to push the boundaries, try to gain an advantage where they can in the hopes of winning.
For the fighters this might be winning the fight. For promotors and organisers, however, this could be getting a point of difference compared to their rivals, or looking to draw in bigger crowds.
Most will do this on the edges, little adjustments here and there.
As this video shows, though, there are those that can go to the extremes when looking to get eyes on their fights.
The Epic Fighting Championship organised a bizarre tag team fight between Vlad Podkolzin and Daniel Buslovskiy as well as Gulmamadov PM and Magamed Taygunov.
Tag teams is different, it’s not something MMA fight fans will have seen.
The Epic Fighting Championship took it up a notch or two, though, by blindfolding all of the participants at various stages of the bout.
As the video shows, it can lead to cheating, mayhem and a whiff of the slapstick about it.
It was dangerous for the participants, but the referee’s had to be on their guard too. There was a distinct possibility they would get clubbed by some of the friendly, or not so friendly fire.
There is no doubting it is different, and the video of this unusual clash will surely be going viral.
It is unlikely that Dana White or the heads of any of the other major MMA organisations will be clamouring for the inclusion of blindfolds or tag teams anytime soon.
In the meantime, enjoy the madness that is the Epic Fighting Championship.
