John Terry’s goalscoring record is very impressive considering he spent his entire professional career playing in defence. The Chelsea legend netted 67 goals in 717 games for the Blues - which averages out at one goal every 10.7 matches. Many midfielders would be happy with those numbers, so to score that many goals from central defence is a record Terry deserves to be proud of.A lot of those goals were scored from set-pieces. John Terry almost scored outrageous goal in Legends' match

But did you know that he almost scored one of the most ridiculous goals we’ve seen in a Legends’ match in 2013?

Terry was one of a handful of star names who turned out to support Celtic hero Stiliyan Petrov’s charity football match.

A sellout crowd of 60,000 bought tickets to watch the match after Petrov, who retired months earlier aged 33, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

And fans witnessed an outrageous long-range effort at goal from Terry, who spotted the opposition goalkeeper of his line and struck an audacious shot from around 70 yards.

The Chelsea icon caught the ball perfectly and watched as the ball sailed towards goal.

So unlucky!

An inch to the left and JT would have been off celebrating the best goal of his career.

A goal could - and should - have followed seconds later but fans witnessed a shocking miss instead.

Does John Terry support Celtic?

Before the game, Terry revealed that Celtic were the Scottish team he grew up supporting.

“My brother and I decided that we would choose an English team and a Scottish team each,” the Premier League legend told Celtic’s official website. “I chose Chelsea and Celtic and my brother went for Rangers which meant we had plenty of rivalry growing up.”

Asked about his involvement in Petrov’s charity game, Terry added: “I’ve known Stiliyan from playing against him over the past years and once Chelsea were contacted to ask whether I could play it was an easy decision for me to make. It’s a privilege to be asked to be involved and it’s fantastic what the club are doing for Stiliyan. It shows how much he is thought of by everyone connected with Celtic.”

Terry was seen in the stands of Celtic Park with a green and white scarf during last month’s Old Firm derby against Rangers.

He filmed the home fans as they sang the club’s iconic anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and watched on as the fierce rivals played out a 1-1 draw.
