Liverpool, Man Utd, Celtic: What is the greatest football chant?

Few sights in football are more goosebump-inducing to the neutral fan than that of a packed stadium belting out the iconic anthem of their team.

The sound of thousands of people coming together in unison to roar on their side is a universal language that translates all around the globe.

In an effort to find out which fanbase in the world game generates the best atmosphere at their noisiest, the folks over at 90min Espanyol recently ranked the 12 greatest chants from around the planet.

The results are in and three British sides make the cut in a truly diverse line-up.

We’ve taken a look at 90min’s findings below, together with clips of the respective stadiums absolutely jumping. Be sure to keep your devices at a moderate volume, though, because these are seriously loud.

Celtic come out on top

The Hoops claim top spot in the countdown with Celtic Park’s version of the Depeche Mode hit “I Just Can’t Get Enough”.

In their summary notes, 90min reflect on the “party that starts in the stands” whenever the song – which was first adopted by the club’s fans in 2010 – is sung.

As they put it: “Everyone sings, everyone dances, everyone applauds, but no one stands still!”

Liverpool’s iconic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” anthem takes second position.

One of football’s most emotional songs, Celtic supporters are also known for their own rendition of the Gerry and the Pacemakers classic, although it’s undoubtedly the Reds’ version that’s named in the list.

Real Madrid and Barcelona take third and fourth spots respectively, while Man United’s cry of “Glory, Glory” sits back in 10th position.

A number of entries from South America also feature, proving the feverish passion for the beautiful game in that part of the world, together with stops in Belgium and Germany.

Don’t expect a peaceful afternoon if you attend a home fixture featuring any of the above clubs, though.
