Thibaut Courtois dropped a performance of legendary proportions during the Champions League final this year.

Real Madrid‘s road to their 14th European Cup was paved with glorious individual displays from the likes of Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and more during times where they looked distinctly second best.

And when Los Blancos were wheezing and floundering through the early exchanges at the Stade de France last season, it was Courtois’ turn to put on a masterclass for the ages to keep Liverpool at bay.

Courtois’ masterclass vs Liverpool

Making an astonishing nine saves to leave Jurgen Klopp’s men tearing their hair out, the former Chelsea shot-stopper went above and beyond the call of duty to get his hands on a maiden Champions League title.

And it couldn’t have been any clearer after the final whistle in Paris that Courtois viewed his stunning performance as one big middle finger to those who have doubted him over the years.

Courtois told BT Sport immediately after Real’s victory: “In the press conference yesterday I said when Real Madrid plays finals they win it. I’m on the good side of history.

“I saw tweets coming my way saying I was going to get humbled today but it was the other way around. Today I needed to win a final for my career, for all the hard work, to put respect on my name, because I don’t think I have enough respect, especially in England. I saw a lot of criticism, even after a great season, that I was not good enough or whatever.

“I’m just really happy and proud of the performance of the team. We stuck to it and when I needed to be I was there for the team.” Power to you, Thibaut.

Courtois gets a new tattoo

And the Real shot-stopper has now gone one step further in enjoying his Champions League final heroics by revealing to the world the tattoo that he got to commemorate the occasion this week.

That’s because the 30-year-old posted on his Instagram story on Thursday the new ink that will be adorning what looks like his arm for the rest of his life so he’ll never ever forget that night against Liverpool.

The body art displays a football goal completely bricked up, illustrating his unstoppable nature in Paris, along with a ‘TC1′ graphic in graffiti-like font and the Champions League trophy labelled with ’22’.

It’s certainly a great way to brag out producing one of European football’s greatest ever goalkeeping displays, so be sure to check out Courtois’ new ink for yourself down below:

Read it and weep, Liverpool fans.

The night he silenced the doubters

Even in a world where Courtois’ career now suddenly and unexpectedly goes flying off the rails, he’ll always be able to look at his arm and remind himself of the time he proved the haters wrong with an all-time great performance.

Goalkeepers winning Man of the Match awards might not feel as glamorous as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi bossing a Champions League final, but let’s face it, there has hardly been a more tattoo-worthy masterclass in recent years than Courtois’.

As such, Kopites will just have to imagine a world where they left an indelible print on Real’s net last month in the way that Courtois has on his arm for them not having done so.
