Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan: Exhibition fight has been proposed

Amir Khan vs Manny Pacquiao

Amir Khan has claimed that Manny Pacquiao’s representatives have been in touch regarding a potential exhibition fight between the pair, although Khan isn’t convinced.

The Brit announced his retirement earlier this year after being hammered by Kell Brook in February when they stepped in the ring to settle their feud.

He also claimed that Floyd Mayweather had made him an offer for an exhibition fight this year, much to the frustration of Khan.

After spending much of his career chasing an epic showdown with either Mayweather or Pacquiao, Khan believes the offers are coming too late and should have come during his prime.

The revelations were made on iFL TV, where Khan went on to say: “I got another phone call about another one today, a friend of mine got a phone call from Freddie Roach to say ‘listen we want to get a fight now Manny didn’t win the elections, let’s do an exhibition or maybe even a proper fight.’ They also wanted to do it in the UK.

“But to be honest with you all that bull**** chasing Mayweather and Pacquiao. I am not going to chase them now, I heard it and laughed at it because it is probably all b******* to be honest with you. But that was the phone call I got today but I was like ‘alright mate tell Freddie nice one.’

“Look, exhibitions always happen, I met Floyd the other day in Dubai and there was some excitement there, he was like ‘don’t retire, let’s do something, there’s something we can do.’

“I was like ‘maybe if it didn’t happen when we were both professional fighters, maybe it can happen as an exhibition’. No-one wins, it’s just a bit of fun to give the fans a bit of entertainment. I think now with boxing, it’s totally changed now where a lot of these fights happen.”

Although clearly aggrieved that the duo have got in touch with him at this stage in their careers, the potential of another massive pay day could tempt Khan to put his frustrations aside and accept.

He has previous with Pacquiao as they were both under the training of Freddie Roach who had the pair sparring at the Wild Card gym once upon a time.

This isn’t the first time talks have been in place between Khan and Pacquiao, with a potential deal in the past being in the works.

However, due to an undisclosed issue, the bid was derailed and the pair never got in the ring together. The plan was to see them battle it out in Abu Dhabi, with the deal rumoured to be very close before it broke down.

The Filipino is looking to get back into the boxing ring and focus on that once again after his political career didn’t live up to his expectations and he failed.
