Jesse Rodriguez earned the biggest victory of his career over the weekend with a brutal TKO win over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

At the age of just 22, Jesse Rodriguez has the boxing world talking in all the right ways as he continues to prove himself as one of the best super flyweight fighters on the planet. The smaller weight classes haven’t quite been given the kind of spotlight they perhaps deserve in recent times but with someone as talented as this kid coming through the ranks, it’s surely only a matter of time before casual fans begin to understand what hardcore supporters have been saying about ‘Bam’ for so long now.

Rodriguez walked into San Antonio on Saturday night as the WBC super flyweight champion, going up against one of the division’s all-time greats in Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

After a hard-fought battle in which Rodriguez got the better of the veteran, the youngster was able to finish the job with an insane flurry of punches that left the referee no choice but to wave it off.

The hometown hero was met with pure joy and adulation from the crowd as he collapsed to his knees, unable to grasp the scale of his accomplishment.

What’s next?

There are a handful of names still ahead of Jesse Rodriguez in the divisional rankings with the majority of critics believing it’ll be a while before he gets to face any of the big guns.

Eddie Hearn, meanwhile, told DAZN that he’s confident in what Rodriguez can do.

“This is the youngest champion in boxing and might be already a pound-for-pound great,” Hearn said.

“From 108 pounds to 115 pounds, honestly, I don’t think I back any fighter to beat him, and I’m talking about some of the greats,” Hearn continued. “Chocolatito, Estrada, these feel like they’re a long way away, but honestly, Would you put those guys as a favorite against Bam Rodriguez now?”

We do, in fact, live in an era of hype trains in combat sports, and getting too carried away can be pretty common - but Rodriguez certainly has the kind of talent that you don’t exactly come across every day.
