Tottenham have given Middlesbrough a now or never ultimatum over Djed Spence, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte's side have been chasing the Middlesbrough ace since January, but the two clubs are still apart in their valuation of the 21-year-old and haven't been able to agree a fee.

According to Sky Sports, the Spurs boss has been keen on bringing the ex-Nottingham Forest loanee to Hotspur Way since the winter, with Conte eager to improve his right wing-back department.

Earlier this month, the Guardian reported that Tottenham and Middlesbrough had reached an agreement for Spence having moved ahead of the likes of Forest, Roma and Borussia Dortmund in the race for his services.

But Sky Sports state that despite two rounds of talks, a fee hasn't yet been agreed, with Spurs valuing the Championship defender at £10m, which is £5m less than what Boro believe he's worth.

The report says that despite Tottenham's intense interest in Spence, they would be prepared to walk away if a deal can't be reached.

What did Jones say about Spence?

With Tottenham's patience clearly wearing thin, he told GIVEMESPORT: "One source is telling me that Spurs could back out of the Spence deal if things don't start moving the way they want.

"They have fall-back plans so it's not like they will wait for him at all costs. I understand they have made that clear to Boro so this feels like a key time for this deal to start moving."

Will Tottenham eventually get their man?

Spurs now appear to have a free run at his signature, so it's hard to imagine a situation where Spence doesn't end up moving to north London.

While the fee between the two clubs remains a hinderance, Boro know that Spence wants to leave and they're also aware the money made from his departure could fund their entire summer window.

But Tottenham are looking to get the majority of their business completed before they jet off to South Korea next month, so if Middlesbrough aren't playing ball, then Spence might not end up being Conte's fourth summer signing after all, which has looked like being the case for several weeks.
