Southampton winger Theo Walcott could end up leaving for an MLS club this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The £75,000 per-week star has just 12 months remaining on the two-year deal he penned upon his permanent return to Saints and could leave his boyhood club in order to increase his game-time.

Walcott returned to the South Coast following a 15 year absence last summer, but he was hardly given any opportunities by Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The ex-Arsenal forward was handed just five Premier League starts overall and would end up being on the pitch for less than 400 minutes in the top-flight, with his only post-Christmas outing coming as a late substitute at Tottenham in February.

During the final three months of the season, the 33-year-old even found himself left out of matchday squads, and Hasenhuttl would be happy to let the out-of-favour wide man move on.

As a result, Crook reckons that a switch Stateside could be on the cards before the September 1 transfers deadline.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Theo Walcott, it's been mentioned to me by more than one source that the MLS is a possible destination.

"But if he was to stay, I don't think Southampton would have many qualms about that. He's a good lad, good influence in the dressing room, so it comes down to how much he wants to stay because he didn't even get on the bench at times last season."

Which MLS club could Walcott join?

According to The Sun, Walcott's 'favoured destinations are Los Angeles and New York', which leaves him with four standout options in America's top-flight.

LA currently have two sides in the MLS; LA Galaxy, who Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have previously played for, and LAFC, who Gareth Bale, Walcott's ex-Saints teammate, signed for earlier this week and are currently top of the Western Conference in 2022-23.

In New York, there's New York Red Bulls, who are the older of the two clubs, and New York City FC, who's been the home to the likes of Frank Lampard and David Villa.

With Walcott unlikely to find another Premier League club at this stage of his career, moving to the USA looks the ideal decision for the experienced frontman.
