Andy Ruiz Jr is in the shape of his life right now as he prepares for a vital contender clash against Luis Ortiz in September later this year.

In a video posted to social media, and shared by ESPN Ringside, Ruiz Jr is seen putting in the work with an inverted plank, demonstrating his refined conditioning and improved physique with the fight just over two months away.

Showing off a freshly inked torso, the 32-year-old’s lean figure might just provide the added nimble element to his game, with the explosive Ortiz susceptible to flashes of speed and precision, with Ruiz Jr known to utilise such traits to devastating effect.

Despite his size throughout the years, especially against Anthony Joshua in their first fight, the Mexican has always had speed and has always packed a punch.

With the PPV bout slated for September 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, both fighters will make their walk to the ring knowing a dazzling win could earn them a shot at the crown once again.

Ruiz Jr shocked the boxing world with a brilliant performance against AJ when he unified the heavyweight titles at the coveted Madison Square Garden in 2019 after forcing a technical knockout over the British icon, who simply had no answer to the power of the Mexican, despite dropping him early on.

Joshua reclaimed the belts, however, with a convincing decision victory over his rival later that year in Saudi Arabia, and Ruiz Jr now looks to return to contention following a points win over Chris Arreola last year.

Despite entering the twilight phase of his boxing career, Ortiz will prove as tough a test as Ruiz Jr has faced, having lost just twice across his formidable career – both coming to Deontay Wilder.

Despite emerging as a secure betting favourite against the Cuban powerhouse, Ruiz Jr will know he will have to have his wits about him if he wants to forge another path to the top and reclaim his position as unified heavyweight champion of the world.
