WWE stars past and present paid tribute to wrestling great John Cena on the 20th anniversary of his distinguished career after Monday Night Raw.

Acclaimed wrestling figures such as Triple H, Randy Orton, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Stephanie McMahon and many more offered their respect and commendation for the 16-time world champion.

Two decades on from making his debut appearance against Hall of Famer Kurt Angle on SmackDown in June 2002, Cena can stake a good claim as the GOAT of one of the biggest attractions in sport entertainment.

Appearing on the main screen at last night’s event, Angle reminisced over that fateful day, welcoming a future legend to the game.

Above a fierce cheer from the crowd, he said: “20 years ago, I wrestled a kid named Prototype, who was making his debut.

“Little did I know that 20 years later, he would go on to become the most successful WWE Superstar of all time.”

Shortly after, Orton said: “It’s been a hell of a ride and I have enjoyed every second. In the ring, it was an honour to be your opponent, but even more of an honour to be your friend.”

The likes of Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan and The Big Show – all currently rostered to rival show AEW - also offered earnest praise for one of the industry's greatest figures.

Jericho said: “Wishing John Cena congratulations on 20 years of hustle, loyalty and respect; one of my all-time favourite opponents.”

Whilst The Big Show said: “I’m honoured to have worked with you. I’m honoured to call you my friend. Tonight is your night, man.”

With Bryan expressing his appreciation for a true star: “Thank you for being an excellent leader. Thank you for always being so giving, both as a performer and outside the ring.”

With Cena now confirming his desire to return to the stage once again, fans need only look at the mountain of praise from many of the biggest names in WWE to know that they are witnessing greatness as Cena’s legacy continues.
