Southampton supporters ‘would like to see’ winger Moussa Djenepo leave the club this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from St. Mary’s in recent weeks after falling down Ralph Hasenhuttl’s pecking order last term following a string of underwhelming displays.

What is the latest news involving Southampton?

A report from The Athletic back in April stated that Southampton were willing to listen to offers for Theo Walcott, Nathan Redmond and Djenepo.

The trio all have just 12 months remaining on their current contracts and struggled for game time at various points throughout 2021/22, although Redmond worked his way back into Hasenhuttl’s thinking.

Djenepo, on the other hand, had no such luck. After starting the south coast club's opening four Premier League games of the campaign, his game time dropped off dramatically.

The Mali international was selected from the off on 16 September as Southampton saw off Leeds United 1-0 but failed to do so again for the remainder of the season while on league duty.

In total, Djenepo, who cost Hasenhuttl’s charges £15 million, played just 708 minutes of club football last term and was unable to provide a single goal contribution, opening the door to a potentially imminent exit.

What has Crook said about Djenepo?

Crook believes it could be a ‘hectic’ few months for Southampton in terms of incomings and outgoings and that Djenepo is a player the club’s fanbase would be happy to see the back of.

He told GiveMeSport: “Djenepo is someone the fans would like to see leave. He's not particularly popular, but I'm not sure clubs are going to be queuing up for him.

“Obviously, the Lyanco link is this Turkish club that Sport Republic are in the process of buying, so that makes a lot of sense. But I think it will be hectic at Southampton in terms of incomings and outgoings.”

Who else could leave Southampton?

As Crook referred to, centre-back Lyanco is believed to be closing in on a loan switch to Turkish outfit Goztepe amid reports that Saints’ owners Sport Republic are in talks to buy the club.

However, one player who Southampton will surely be desperate to hold onto is club captain James Ward-Prowse.

The Sun journalist Tom Barclay previously informed GMS that he believes the England international ‘would be open’ to moving away from his boyhood club ahead of next season.

Yet Ward-Prowse is likely to cost any potential suitor a considerable fee, with Southampton reportedly slapping a £75m price tag on their prized asset.
