Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3: Eddie Hearn sends warning to Mexican

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has issued a warning to Canelo Alvarez heading into his third fight against Gennady Golovkin.

There are a lot of exciting fights out there waiting to be made in the world of boxing, but one that we know is signed, sealed and delivered is the upcoming trilogy showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

These two men have fought twice before and after years of waiting, we’re finally going to see the third – and most likely final – chapter in their historic rivalry.

It’s safe to say things have become a bit more personal across the last couple of months and while that may be a strange sight to see, it’s certainly going to draw even more eyes to what should be an absolute barnburner of a fight later this year.

September 17 is the date and T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is the location, but as per Eddie Hearn, Canelo can’t wait to get his hands on his long-time foe.

“I think he [Golovkin] looks great. People talk about his age. I think he looks great,” Hearn said.

“Canelo is like a Rottweiler. He’s got to be a little bit careful. He said in the media huddle earlier, you were there, that he’s going to go like he’s ruthless, almost like he’s going to go without fear.

“To do that against a huge puncher like Gennady Golovkin, for the fans and for us, it’s incredible. But it’s a very, very dangerous way to fight Gennady Golovkin, although he did it in the second fight [in 2018], but I feel that this fight won’t go 12 rounds.”

Making a statement

You always have to be looking to make a statement when you get into the squared circle but for Canelo, that’ll be especially true of this trilogy bout.

Their first contest was deemed to be a draw in September 2017, although many pundits and fans alike were left feeling as if Golovkin had been somewhat robbed of the victory.

Twelve months later, they went to the judges’ scorecards again with the Mexican star just about coming out on top.

If he wants to shut up his critics once and for all, he’ll go hunting for the finish in Sin City.
