Chelsea: £50m star 'could become part' of De Ligt swap deal at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea offering midfielder Jorginho in a potential swap deal for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt cannot be ruled out, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

It is believed that the west London club have already offered the Italian giants Timo Werner and money for the Dutchman, and Jones would not be surprised to see Jorginho get added to the proposal.

What is the latest news involving De Ligt?

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have both De Ligt and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar on their radar as Thomas Tuchel looks to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.

Having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, the German needs at least two new central defenders going into the 2022/23 season, and it appears that he has made De Ligt a priority.

As per Di Marzio’s website, the Blues have offered Juventus around £25m plus Werner for the Netherlands international, a proposal the Serie A side have dismissed.

However, the two clubs are set for more talks, so a transfer does not look dead yet.

What has Jones said about Jorginho, De Ligt and Chelsea?

As well as Werner, Jones thinks Chelsea could also try to include Jorginho in a deal for De Ligt.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I think more than ever, we might see those player swaps coming into play, especially as Chelsea have so many players that they’re willing to push out.

“Obviously, so far, we’ve read about the possibility of Werner going in the other direction. I wouldn’t rule out Jorginho becoming part of that as well.”

Should Chelsea consider offering Jorginho in a swap deal for De Ligt?

Chelsea are in desperate need of new centre-halves and Jorginho, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Napoli in a £50m deal back in 2018, has just one year remaining on his current contract. Sacrificing him for De Ligt would make a lot of sense.

The Blues will find it hard to pick up a better defender than the 22-year-old, so letting Jorginho go to bring him in looks worth it.

How much did Roman Abramovich pay for Chelsea FC in 2003?

“I’ve always said that even at 16 he was already stronger than the senior players. And now he has improved a lot,” Jaap Stam said in an interview with Sky Sport (via ilBiancoNero) in March.

“Maybe the coach doesn’t always pick him, but he is young, and he is growing, and he will become one of the strongest defenders in the world,” the former Manchester United and Netherlands defender later went on to add.

Ultimately, Chelsea should be trying to sign De Ligt at all costs, even if it means losing Jorginho.
