West Ham remain locked in talks with Jesse Lingard over a move to the London Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Hammers are long-term admirers of the £16.2m-rated England international and can officially sign him for nothing once his Manchester United contract expires on Thursday.

What's the latest news involving Lingard?

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have made an offer to Lingard's representatives as he approaches the end of his Old Trafford deal, where he will become a free agent.

David Moyes' side have held an interest in the 29-year-old since the end of his loan deal 12 months ago, with the London Stadium outfit failing in their attempts to sign the attacker in each of the last two transfer windows.

Despite missing out on Lingard last summer and then in January, when United weren't willing to sell to one of their Premier League rivals, Jones isn't surprised by West Ham's interest in the player, who made 232 club appearances for the Red Devils.

What did Jones say about Lingard?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Talks are still ongoing and there's still hope, but this is what we expected really.

"People kept trying to knock back the West Ham rumours, but they've always liked him, they've always been like 'we're here, we want to talk to you' and he knows that he fits in, he knows the whole environment, he's obviously got a good thing going.

"But there's one other club that could knock West Ham down and I'm trying to figure out who that is."

What business have West Ham already completed?

Despite a relatively slow start to the window, the Hammers are finally getting their act together as they gear up for another season in Europe.

West Ham finally brought in a centre-back when Rennes star Nayef Aguerd arrived in a £30m deal earlier this month, and he will provide competition for the likes of Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

Moyes has also secured the permanent services of PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola following his loan spell with the Irons last season.

Despite making just one Premier League appearance, with the majority of his game-time coming in the Europa League, the Frenchman opted to become a permanent Hammers player, with the deal set to cost the Londoners around £10.5m.
