McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has said that he can see no reason why the team can't compete for the Formula E championship from the very first season they're competing in.

The team unveiled the liveries for their Extreme E and Formula E entries at their HQ on Monday as the group continues to expand into new motorsport genres, adding to their IndyCar franchise and, of course, their Formula 1 outfit.

Indeed, it's exciting times for the Woking-based team and, that said, Brown is pumping up that feeling by saying competing for the championship from the get-go next season in Formula E is an attainable target.

Speaking to the gathered press, including Give Me Sport, at the launch at the McLaren Technology Centre, Brown said:

“I see no reason why the Formula E team can’t compete for the championship in year one.

“While we, as McLaren, are new to it, the entire team are not. There’s a new generation car so everyone’s going to have a bit of a reset, but I don’t see any reason why our team won’t have all the resources it needs to compete for the championship.”

McLaren, of course, are succeeding the Mercedes team in Formula E and a number of their personnel are staying with the team, meaning the succession process shouldn't be a difficult one.

Ultimately, McLaren is a brand built to win, and that is what Brown and co. will be wanting to do from the off when the new season hits.
