Emma Raducanu is set to play in the second round of Wimbledon after a straight set victory over Alison Van Uytvanck.

The British star defeated the Belgian 6-4, 6-4, setting up an encounter with Caroline Garcia of France.

The pair have met once before, with Raducanu triumphing 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the second round of Indian Wells.

Raducanu will be desperate to find her form at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, having struggled with injuries since her improbable US Open victory in September.

But Garcia is looking to spoil the party at Wimbledon, having already defeated Britain’s Yuriko Miyazaki. She revealed she was not intimidated by playing a home favourite.

"You know, when I play in the French Open, it's kind of the same the other way around - you know what is going to happen, and I think it's completely fair," she explained. "You're not going to complain about it.

“Most of the time in tennis, I think British people are 'nice.' Obviously they want the British player to win, but they are still fair and respectful.

“Normally I have nothing to say about it. It's completely normal that they cheer for the player from their country.

"It's going to be my first match on Centre Court, and it's always a pleasure to be playing on the big courts of the Slams, and the one of Wimbledon is very special.

“The roof is definitely good news. At least you know you are going to play and you don't have to wait. It's going to be a great atmosphere.”

Who is Caroline Garcia?

Garcia is a French tennis player with eight WTA singles and seven doubles titles to her name.

The 28-year-old achieved her best singles ranking back in 2018 when she reached fourth in the world, but she has since slipped down the list to 55th.

Garcia is yet to make a mark at Grand Slams, arguably tennis’s biggest stage. Her best finish at a major tournament was the quarter-finals at the 2017 French Open.

She does have two Grand Slam titles in doubles, however, triumphing at the French Open in 2016 and 2022.

Caroline Garcia’s recent form

Garcia is currently in excellent form. She overcame Bianca Andreescu to win the Bad Homburg Open title last week, and her victory over Miyazaki was her sixth straight win on grass.

In fact, with a 64.38 win percentage, grass is the surface Garcia performs best on. Raducanu certainly faces a tricky opponent in the second round of Wimbledon.
