Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd star's free-kick in warm up that made crowd roar

Cristiano Ronaldo’s form was the only real positive for Manchester United in the 2021/22 season.

Overall, the Red Devils endured a truly miserable campaign, but their 37-year-old talisman somehow managed to still deliver the goods in front of goal.

Ronaldo managed to score 24 times across all competitions, including 18 in Premier League action.

Only Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Tottenham‘s underrated forward Heung-min Son manage to ripple the back of the net more times in the English top-flight than United’s main man.

Ronaldo also managed to end his prolonged free-kick drought during the 2021/22 season.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner converted a set-piece as part of a hat-trick in United‘s much-needed 3-2 home win over relegated Norwich City back at the end of April.

That was his first success since the 2019/20 season, when he delivered some dead-ball genius in the Turin derby for Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo takes a free-kick for Juventus

Ronaldo has scored some sensational free-kicks for United down the years, including a physics-defying knuckleball effort against Portsmouth and a 40-yard bullet against Arsenal in a Champions League semi-final.

The Portugal international also managed to wow the Old Trafford crowd with a free-kick during a warm up routine – which is not something that’s overly common.

One fan in attendance captured the moment of magic on camera and uploaded it to YouTube, with the video currently on well over 10 million views.

An absolute beauty. The roar from those already sat in their seat tells you everything you need to know about how good the free-kick was.

Ronaldo’s prolificacy from set-piece situations has certainly waned in recent years, despite the fact he regularly takes them for both club and country.

But while that’s the case, it must never be forgotten that for many, many years, he was the very best in the business from free-kicks. And if you don’t believe that, just ask Real Madrid fans.

Thirty-two of Ronaldo’s 48 free-kick goals at club level came during his incredible nine-year spell with the Spanish club, which is a quite incredible return.
