Xherdan Shaqiri's spell at Lyon was certainly nothing to write home about. The Swiss attacker joined the French outfit from Liverpool last summer for a fee believed to be around €6 million.Shaqiri signed a three-year deal, but was off on his travels once again in February of this year to sign for Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire FC.All in all, Shaqiri played just 16 games across all competitions for Lyon, scoring only two goals. The 30-year-old technician certainly wasn't at his eye-catching best out in France, but he was able to produce one of the funniest moments seen anywhere in Europe during the 2021/22 season. It came during a Europa League group stage encounter between Lyon and Sparta Prague, a match in which the Ligue 1 side emerged with a comfortable 3-0 victory on home soil.Shaqiri played the full 90 minutes at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais and he inadvertently went viral after missing an easy chance in the second half.Xherdan Shaqiri in action with LyonSoccer Football - Europa League - Group A - Olympique Lyonnais v Brondby - Groupama Stadium, Lyon, France - September 30, 2021 Olympique Lyonnais' Xherdan Shaqiri REUTERS/Denis BalibouseThe stocky forward was unable to convert from close-range after being found by Lucas Paqueta. He then decided to try and halt his momentum by swinging on the crossbar.Sadly for Shaqiri, that proved to be a huge mistake. The former Stoke City man - who stands at just 5 feet 7 inches - was unable to get both hands on the woodwork and as a result went head first into the net in rather comedic fashion.Relive the hilarious moment here...

Poor ol' Xherdan. But while we have some sympathy with him, we'll never be able to watch that clip without having a bit of a giggle.

Shaqiri's MLS adventure

So how has Shaqiri got on in Major League Soccer since moving to Chicago in February? Well, goals have been slightly easier to come by.

He's scored three times in 11 appearances at the time of writing, although the team as a whole are having a 2022 season to forget.

Chicago Fire currently sit bottom of the 14-team Eastern Conference. They've earned just 14 points from their 16 matches, suffering defeat a worrying eight times.
