Chris Billam-Smith and Isaac Chamberlain will collide in an all-British cruiserweight clash in Bournemouth on July 30.

Local lad Billam-Smith, 31, will fight Brixton’s Chamberlain at the Bournemouth International Centre which is only a short distance away from Vitality Stadium, the home of his beloved AFC Bournemouth.

It is understood that both Billam-Smith’s Commonwealth and European cruiserweight titles will both be up for grabs.

Whoever wins will take the next step towards the upper echelons of boxing‘s increasingly stacked cruiserweight division, with big fights against Lawrence Okolie and Richard Riakporhe possibly in the offing.

“I’m coming home,” Smith told Sky Sports. “I’m so delighted to be fighting back at home in front of my friends, family and supporters.

“Atmosphere is why I got into boxing and on July 30 the atmosphere is going to be electrifying.

“As I always said, it doesn’t matter who is in the other corner, I just want to fight back at home.

“In front of a home crowd, I always perform.”

Chamberlain meanwhile is on a mission to exorcise his demons from his loss to Okolie which coincidentally was also the last time he competed on Sky Sports.

“Now we’re on Sky, we’re back in the big time and I’m ready to show everyone this is a different Isaac to the one they’ve seen before,” he added.

“This is a massive opportunity and I want to give a huge shout to my manager Mick Hennessey for sticking with me all these years, along with my trainers.”

Promoter Ben Shalom, understandably, could barely contain his excitement.

He continued: “This is an evenly matched showdown between two of the best and highly ranked British cruiserweights.

“Everything is on the line so we’re sure to see fireworks.

“Billam-Smith will be riding high in confidence in front of his frenetic Bournemouth fans, while Chamberlain is fired up to cause a major upset and beat Billam-Smith in his backyard.”

While Adam Smith, Sky Sports’ Head of Boxing Development, concluded: “We are very excited about a super summer show in Bournemouth topped by the fabulous cruiserweight clash between two of our very finest in Chris Billam-Smith and Isaac Chamberlain.

“There will also be a golden chance to showcase our wonderful next generation of Boxxer/Sky talent at peak time on Sky Sports on this bright, lively Fight Night at the end of July.”

Olympic silver medallist Ben Whittaker is also set to make his debut too, with former Team GB teammates Caroline Dubois and Lauren Price also expected to be on the undercard as they look to get more rounds under their belts.

The card is also likely to feature Frazer Clarke, though an opponent is yet to be finalised, with Hassan Azim and Jimmy Lee both potentially back in action as well.
