Leeds United have a shortlist of four to five midfield targets, including RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

It is an area the Yorkshire club are looking to strengthen this summer, with Adams being one name who has been linked with a move to Elland Road.

What is the latest transfer news involving Leeds?

Leeds’ need for a new midfielder is becoming more pressing, as Kalvin Phillips is heading closer to the exit door.

As per The Athletic, Manchester City have reached an agreement with their Premier League rivals to sign the England midfielder.

His departure would still leave Jesse Marsch with Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton, Mateusz Klich and Marc Roca.

But given Forshaw’s injury problems last season and Shackleton’s lack of top-flight experience, bringing in someone like Adams, who is said to be high up Victor Orta’s list, still looks necessary.

As well as Phillips, Leeds also look set to lose Raphinha, with Barcelona thought to be closing in on a deal to sign the Brazilian.

What has Jones said about Leeds’ transfer plans?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Leeds are considering a host of midfielders right now, including Adams.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Ultimately, there is that position that needs filling, and they’ve got four or five possible names is what I’m told at the moment for who fills it, and Tyler Adams is just one of those.”

Would Adams be a good signing for Leeds?

While £38,000-a-week Adams, who is valued at £26m by the CIES Football Observatory, is probably not on Phillips’ level yet, he very well could be.

The 23-year-old has excelled over the last year when it has come to blocks, ranking in the 98th percentile among midfielders (via FBref), while his former manager Ralf Rangnick has even compared him to Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

Mateusz Bogusz - Leeds

Do you know this obscure player Leeds signed in the January transfer window?

“I see him similarly to Joshua Kimmich, in central midfield as a six or an eight. He has now started to score and create a few goals and I see his potential as being very high, the sky is the limit,” the former Manchester United boss said (via LeedsLive) during Adams’ first season at Leipzig.

“As long as he maintains his mentality, and he won’t lose it, I don’t see any limits.”

Considering all of the above, Marsch, who has worked with Adams at both Leipzig and New York Red Bulls, would surely welcome the arrival of his compatriot. It is now just a question of whether Leeds can actually get a deal done.
