Manchester United remain locked in negotiations with Ajax as they look to strike a deal which will see Antony head to Old Trafford, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Erik ten Hag has just made the same move, having swapped the Eredivisie giants for the Red Devils' dugout following the conclusion of last season, but the Premier League side are having more difficulty in securing Antony's services.

Manchester United officials were due in Amsterdam last week as they looked to tempt Ajax into accepting a £40million fee for Antony.

However, it appears the Red Devils' valuation is some way short of the Dutch side's price tag, which stands at £69million.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Antony could head to Old Trafford if a counter-offer of £60million is tabled by Manchester United, but they are not the only Premier League side showing an interest.

That is because Chelsea have also held talks with the Brazilian’s representatives as they prepare to start splashing the cash after a £4.25billion takeover led by Todd Boehly.

However, Manchester United will feel they hold the upper-hand as Antony became a favourite under ten Hag at Ajax, with the new Red Devils chief selecting the 22-year-old on 79 occasions.

Crook understands Manchester United are putting everything into trying to seal a deal which will see Antony head to the Premier League for the first time in his career.

But the talkSPORT reporter believes the Red Devils are still failing to meet Ajax's valuation, as things stand.

Crook told GIVEMESPORT: "I know United have been working hard on Antony, but the fee that I was given was £40million.

"I think their asking price is nearer £60million so, obviously, there's negotiating to be done there."

Could Antony push for a move to Man Utd?

That appears to be the case because Antony failed to return as his Ajax team-mates began pre-season training last Friday.

He has also told his current employers that he will not be back until August, insisting he is suffering complications from an ankle injury.

According to Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf, via United in Focus, Antony feels he has been priced out of a move to Manchester United thanks to a 'disproportionate' price tag being slapped on him.

However, Ajax are still in a strong negotiating position as the forward's £19,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until 2025.
