UFC opponents Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena have taken their rivalry to a different arena - an axe-throwing challenge.

Over the course of the last six months, the women’s bantamweight division has been flipped upside down. In addition to a whole host of new contenders rising up through the ranks, we also saw one of the biggest upsets in UFC history back at UFC 269 when Julianna Pena submitted Amanda Nunes to capture the title.

The expectation was that we’d see an immediate rematch, but instead of going down that route first, UFC president Dana White opted to put the two rivals together as coaches in a new season of The Ultimate Fighter.

The show may not have the same allure it once did as a result of the Contender Series, but it’s still interesting to see how two foes act around one another for weeks at a time.

One of the hallmarks of any TUF season is the Coaches Challenge which always tends to be both funny and quite entertaining.

This time around, though, the promotion took things to a whole new level by getting Nunes and Pena to launch axes at a board.

Axe-throwing has become pretty standard as a hobby across the globe and in this instance, based on the evidence provided in the preview clip, ‘The Lioness’ is quite comfortable in this role.

Pena, however, has some work to do.

Running it back

After The Ultimate Fighter comes to an end, we will indeed see the sequel of Pena vs Nunes with the UFC women’s bantamweight championship once again being on the line.

The strange way in which the first fight played out is bound to leave many wondering what’s going to happen next as Nunes attempts to pick herself up, dust herself off and solidify her position as the greatest female fighter of all-time.

Pena, meanwhile, has the unenviable task of proving that her success in December wasn’t a fluke by doing it all over again.

Their collision will take place at UFC 277 on July 30 in Dallas, Texas as the main event of the evening.
