Everton would be interested in signing Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn this summer, claims journalist Pete O'Rourke.

It is believed that the north London club were willing to offer the Merseyside outfit Bergwijn as part of a deal for Richarlison.

What is the latest news involving Bergwijn?

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham offered Everton Bergwijn and £20m for Richarlison, a proposal that was rejected by the Toffees.

Harry Winks and Lucas Moura were also thought to be players who Spurs were open to including in a deal for the Brazilian, but it seems Everton want straight cash and will be getting that.

As per Sky Sports, both clubs have now settled on a £60m a fee.

As for Bergwijn, he has also been linked with a move to Ajax, with the Evening Standard reporting that the Dutch giants are ready to break their transfer record to sign the 24-year-old.

What has O'Rourke said about Bergwijn to Everton?

While Everton were not keen on the idea of Bergwijn being a part of the Richarlison deal, O'Rourke thinks they would be interested in signing him in a separate transfer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "Steven Bergwijn is a good player. It looks like he will be leaving Tottenham, so Tottenham tried to persuade Everton to do it [accept him as part of the Richarlison deal]. I'm sure Everton would be interested in doing a separate deal - get their money for Richarlison and then maybe buy Bergwijn if they're able to."

Would Bergwijn be a good signing for Everton?

It obviously has not worked out for Bergwijn at Tottenham following his £27m move from PSV Eindhoven back in 2020.

Last season, he made just four starts in the Premier League, showing how difficult he has found life in north London.

Even so, he is still an attacking player with a lot of quality, something manager Antonio Conte has spoken about before.

"Obviously he has a lot of quality," the Italian said at the end of last year (via Football-Oranje). "He’s good one-on-one, he’s quick and he can score goals. We are working with him and he understands what I want from him.

"For me, he is one of the forwards and someone who can play in the three positions up front. I’ll have to make an important evaluation, but Steven is in my squad and I’m counting on him."

Ultimately, if Everton can get Bergwijn for a reasonable fee, it could be a smart piece of business.
