West Ham attacker Said Benrahma was wanted more by the board than David Moyes, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Algeria international made the switch to the London Stadium from Brentford back in 2020, but he has been unable to nail down a regular starting place under Moyes.

What's the latest news involving Benrahma?

Benrahma has made 79 appearances in two seasons with the Hammers, with his attacking output the best in the squad behind Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio.

But he has only started roughly half of West Ham's Premier League games since his arrival, (40 out of a possible 72) with Moyes yet to fully trust him, according to GiveMeSport's Dean Jones.

Benrahma has shown glimpses of his obvious quality, highlighted by his impressive return from last season.

Despite not starting every week, the ex-Brentford ace scored 11 goals and laid on six assists in the Premier League and Europa League, with only Bowen and Antonio responsible for more goal involvements.

As a result, West Ham would be open to the possibility of letting Benrahma leave this summer, but only if they can recoup the majority of the £25m they paid for his services two years ago.

What did Crook say about Benrahma?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He's been more of an impact sub under David Moyes. He started the season quite well, but like West Ham, he tailed off in the second half of the campaign.

"I've never felt like David Moyes has been completely convinced by him, I think it was more of a board signing than a Moyes signing."

Should West Ham persist with Benrahma?

West Ham are clearly trying to strengthen their forward options, with Jesse Lingard and Arnaut Danjuma both on their radar, but Moyes is not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to the attacking areas.

They currently have Bowen, Nikola Vlasic, who also doesn't appear to have Moyes' full faith, and Pablo Fornals, but Andriy Yarmolenko is no longer with the club, meaning Benrahma is one of only four players currently bidding to fill three attacking areas.

Therefore, unless West Ham are able to significantly upgrade on Benrahma, his 17 goals and assists are evidence that it might be worth sticking with the Algerian for at least one more season.
