Leeds United could win the race for Mohamed Camara's signature thanks to the 'connections' of Elland Road chief Jesse Marsch, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' head coach in February and he may play a pivotal role in the Yorkshire giants' pursuit of the midfielder.

What's the latest news involving Camara?

According to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, Red Bull Salzburg have excused Camara from their pre-season training camp in order to resolve his future.

Taylor claims Leeds have been in direct contract with the 15-cap Mali international's representatives and, with him wanting a move to the Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion are also showing an interest.

It is understood that a bid worth up to £25million will need to be lodged in order to tempt Salzburg into sanctioning Camara's departure.

The Austrian giants are in a strong negotiating position and not necessarily in desperate need of finding a buyer before the transfer window slams shut as the 22-year-old's contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025.

Marsch selected Camara 42 times during his stint in charge of Salzburg, and the defensive midfielder repaid him with three goals and two assists.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Camara?

O'Rourke believes Camara has traits within his game which will allow him to flourish in the Premier League.

The journalist feels Leeds stand a good chance of beating Brighton to his signature thanks to the influence of Marsch.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "He's had a very good season for RB Salzburg. He is an all-action midfielder who looks like he's got all the attributes to be a success in England as well.

"Obviously, Jesse Marsch knows him very well and his connections with Salzburg might make a deal easier to do. It's definitely something Leeds are looking into."

Why is Camara of interest to Leeds?

Leeds are preparing for life without academy graduate Kalvin Phillips, who is joining Manchester City in a £45million deal.

With the Whites looking to identify a replacement, the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed director of football Victor Orta has opened talks with a trio of defensive midfielders ahead of potentially heading to the negotiating table.

The report suggests Camara - who made 36 appearances last season - is among them, having gained an admirer in Orta.

The Malian has won the domestic double on three occasions during his time at Salzburg, so he would clearly bring a winning mentality to Elland Road.
