Southampton have told Jan Bednarek that they would be ‘willing to accept’ a suitable offer for him this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

It could be a hectic window on the south coast as manager Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to revamp his first-team squad following a disappointing end to last season.

What is the latest news involving Bednarek?

Polish outlet Meczyki (via the Daily Echo) claim that Bednarek wanted to leave Southampton over the coming months in order to take the next step in his career.

Serie A giants AS Roma and Napoli are listed as potential suitors for the 26-year-old, who arrived at St. Mary’s for just £5.4 million from Lech Poznan back in 2017.

However, after five successful years with the Saints, Bednarek is now reportedly expected to cost any potential suitor €15 million (£12.8m).

Despite the Poland international still having three years left to run on his current contract, Hasenhuttl may be willing to sanction his sale.

And that is because Southampton have already brought in fellow centre-back Armel Bella-Kotchap from VfL Bochum this summer, bolstering their options at the heart of defence.

What has Crook said about Bednarek?

Crook informed GiveMeSport that he believes there could be mass changes at Southampton, although doesn’t think the club’s hierarchy are forcing anyone ‘out of the door’.

He told GMS: “I think so. I don't think that they're necessarily pushing any of them out the door.

“I think they've told Bednarek that if they get an offer, they're willing to accept it. There's interest in Italy from the likes of Napoli and Jose Mourinho's Roma as well. I think he would be keen on that.”

How big a loss would Bednarek be?

Bednarek, who is valued at £25.5m by CIES, was a regular in Southampton’s starting lineup throughout 2021/22, scoring four goals in his 30 Premier League appearances. And his underlying numbers were even more impressive.

As per WhoScored, the 6 foot 2 ace won 2.9 aerial duels, only Mohammed Salisu won more, while also making 2.3 interceptions, 4.5 clearances, and 0.9 blocks per league game, tallies which none of his teammates could better.

Southampton may have finished last season in a lowly 15th position conceding 67 league goals, but things could have been much worse if it wasn’t for Bednarek’s strong showing.

Losing Bednarek, therefore, would be a bitter blow for Southampton, and Hasenhuttl will surely be hoping he can retain his services for a little while longer.
