Tottenham 'very confident of announcing deal' for 15-cap star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham‘s busy summer window looks set to continue with the arrival of Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet not far away, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The north London outfit have already confirmed three arrivals and are working on another three as they prepare for the start of pre-season.

What’s the latest news involving Tottenham?

Spurs have already secured the services of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and midfielder Yves Bissouma and are continuing their fast start to the window with more shrewd business expected to follow.

According to The Athletic, Antonio Conte’s team have beaten off a last-ditch attempt from Chelsea to sign Everton ace Richarlison and will pay the Toffees in the region of £50m.

Furthermore, they’ve finally reached a breakthrough with Middlesbrough for the services of Djed Spence following weeks of unsuccessful talks. The 21-year-old will cost Tottenham around £15m plus add ons, with an agreement on course to be reached by the weekend.

And the good news keeps on coming for Spurs, with the 15-cap France international Lenglet set to link up with Conte’s men on a season-long loan from Barcelona to provide competition at the heart of the defence.

Let’s start easy: What was Tottenham’s old ground called?

The Athletic believe that an agreement hasn’t yet been reached, but Jacobs reckons that Tottenham are confident the deal is “very close” to being officially announced.

What did Jacobs say about Lenglet?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Lenglet is looking the most likely, especially because Barcelona want to move him on very quickly so they can make space for [Andreas] Christensen. At the moment, I think Lenglet is very, very close and Tottenham are very confident of announcing that one soon.”

Are Tottenham expected to complete more business?

Despite being on the verge of having six arrivals through the door before they jet off to South Korea for their pre-season tour, Tottenham could still make further signings.

At the beginning of the summer, left centre-back was identified as a ‘priority’ for Conte, which appeared to suggest that Spurs will spend big in that area.

So, with Lenglet only coming in on loan, the Champions League club will surely still have funds left over to bring in someone in the calibre or a Pau Torres of Alessandro Bastoni in the remainder of the window.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ previous interest in Christian Eriksen could mean that Conte is still hoping to sign a creative midfielder, with no recognised playmaker in their current squad.
