Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders has made a big claim about this current side, and one that might give fans nightmares thinking back to the past.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been on something of a wild ride in the past few years. Having won the Super Bowl back in the 2017 season against the New England Patriots, they haven’t been able to capitalise on their success since then, and whilst they have made the playoffs in three of the four seasons since then, missing out in 2020 with a 4-11-1 record, they haven’t come close to achieving that success once again.

And in amongst all of that, there has been a change of quarterback as they moved on from Carson Wentz - who was performing at an MVP level in 2017 before injury cut his season short - as well as head coach as the man who led them to their Super Bowl win Doug Pederson was fired at the end of the 2020 season.

Taking their respective places now is Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni to go along with a host of other changes that the team has made when it comes to their personnel, most notably in this year’s draft when they picked up the monster defensive tackle Jordan Davis and impressive linebacker Nakobee Dean from the College Football Playoff winning Georgia Bulldogs to name just a couple.

And Sanders, who has been with the Eagles since 2019, believes that this team could end up being something special.

What has Sanders said?

Speaking in an interview with CBS Sports, Sanders spoke of how impressed he has been with the team, with reference to the offensive weapons that the team now has including A.J Brown, DeVonte Smith and Dallas Goedert, and how it is coming together over the offseason, claiming that they are developing into a very special team:

“Oh man. We all feel like we're on an all-star team, so we feel great. We feel unstoppable, I'm not gonna lie. The vibes are great, always have been. Nick Sirianni is doing a great job just keeping the vibes right, the chemistry good. We compete a lot in practice. But we've gotta see. Its gonna come down to camp, taking it day by day, putting everything together.”

It does all sound very promising, and of course there’s nothing really wrong with having confidence in how your team is shaping up.

Although if you’re an Eagles fan of a certain vintage, hearing such promising words about how good the team is set to be might not sit well with you.

Why should Eagles fans be nervous?

Back in 2011, there was a lot of confidence about the Eagles having come off the back of a 10-6 record and having made a couple of astute acquisitions that offseason, most notably cornerbacks Nnamdi Asomugha & Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie whilst also adding defensive end Jason Babin to go along with the likes of LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson from the previous season.

This led backup quarterback Vince Young, another player they acquired that offseason, to brand them ‘The Dream Team’ in an interview before the start of the season, only for them to go 8-8 and miss the playoffs.

Now whether ‘All-Star’ is above or below ‘Dream Team’ when it comes to ranking and how special they can be is up for debate, but history does show when it comes to the Eagles, being brash about the team you have might not be the best way to go about things.

Let's just see if it can be a case of 'second time lucky'.
