Newcastle now 'seriously considering' exciting £60m deal at St James' Park

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe applauds the supporters

Newcastle United are ‘seriously considering’ whether to tempt Moussa Diaby to St James’ Park and they have been boosted by the winger being ‘open’ to the move, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Magpies have been busy in the transfer window, with close to £60million being spent on Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman, but it appears head coach Eddie Howe is keen on adding Diaby to his squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

What’s the latest news involving Diaby?

According to The Sun, Newcastle and French giants Paris Saint-Germain are interested in tempting Bayer Leverkusen into selling Diaby.

The report suggests the Bundesliga side are keen to keep the eight-cap France international on their books and, as a result, are seeking £50million.

Although Leverkusen want to see Diaby remain at the club, Jacobs has previously revealed the 22-year-old is open to swapping Germany for Tyneside.

In a further boost for Newcastle, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has admitted Diaby could be sold if a big-money offer is tabled.

Magpies officials have held talks over the winger after emerging as one of Howe’s key transfer targets ahead of the upcoming campaign.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Diaby?

Jacobs believes Newcastle may be forced to fork out a club-record fee for Diaby if other suitors join them and PSG in the race for his signature.

The journalist is also aware that the Frenchman is willing to hold discussions with the Magpies’ hierarchy.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “As I understand it, Leverkusen will only want a fee in the £40million or £45million region, not the £60million mark. But the add-ons are still going to take that deal to £60million and, as other suitors come in, Leverkusen may play hardball.

“Newcastle are seriously considering that move and the player has certainly intimated that he would be open to talking further to them.”

Why is Diaby on Howe’s radar?

Alex Crook – the talkSPORT reporter – has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle are admirers of Diaby, so it should not come as a surprise that the Tyneside giants are seemingly plotting a move.

Statistics show the wide-man averaged more goals, assists, shots on target and a better pass completion rate than Magpies favourite Allan Saint-Maximin last season, which is no mean feat.

Diaby found the back of the net 17 times and contributed a further 14 assists, so there is no doubt that he would be a major threat in Newcastle’s attack.
