Leading travel brand Snaptrip has projected an enormous image of England striker Ellen White onto The White Cliffs of Dover ahead of Euro 2022.

The projection, which stands at a gigantic 200 feet tall, lit up the famous chalk cliffs in Kent on Thursday night.

Snaptrip has also encouraged football fans to sign its petition to rename the popular tourist destination ‘The Ellen White Cliffs of Dover’ for the duration of the Euros.

Matthew Fox, the CEO of Snaptrip Group — which has 60,000 holiday cottages, lodges and apartments across the UK — said it was “only right to celebrate one of the best footballers the country has to offer at one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks.”

Indeed, White is England women’s all-time leading goalscorer, having netted 50 goals since scoring on her senior international debut in 2010.

Last November, the Manchester City star beat Kelly Smith’s record for most goals scored in a Lionesses shirt. She contributed a hat-trick to her country’s 20-0 demolition over Latvia, which set a new record as England’s largest victory for both the men’s and women’s teams.

As well as her unrivalled goalscoring record for England, White has enjoyed blockbuster moments on some of the biggest stages in the world.

The forward featured at three consecutive World Cups in 2011, 2015 and 2019. She helped England win the bronze medal in 2015 and went on to scoop the Bronze Boot award in 2019 after finishing as the third-highest goalscorer.

White also represented Great Britain at the 2012 and 2020 Olympics. With six goals across the two tournaments, she is Team GB’s all-time top scorer at the Games.

On the domestic stage, White has won two Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups and four league cups during her time with both Arsenal and Man City.

Ahead of Euro 2022, White assisted the Lionesses in winning the inaugural Arnold Clark Cup. The forward will hope to carry this form into the tournament this summer.

When was the UEFA Women’s Euro founded?

“When Great Britain won gold at the Olympics, we painted post boxes,” said Snaptrip CEO Fox. “During the men’s World Cup in 2021, we woke up to the news that Southgate Street in Gloucester had been renamed ‘Gareth Southgate Street’, and we wanted to add a little of that magic ahead of the Women’s Euros.

“With this summer’s tournament taking place in England it seemed only right to celebrate one of the best footballers the country has to offer, at one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks.

“The petition started out as a bit of fun, but it would be fantastic to see such a famous landmark embrace a temporary new identity in support of the national women’s team.

“I know all of us at Snaptrip are looking forward to cheering on the Lionesses; fingers crossed we’re all planning a trip to the open top bus parade in a few weeks time.”
