British GP: Jamie Chadwick keen to avenge 'one that got away' at Silverstone 2021

The British Grand Prix is now just hours away and W Series leader Jamie Chadwick is on the hunt for her first win at her home circuit.

Last year, the two-time champion came third at Silverstone, while compatriot Alice Powell took the victory. Liechtensteiner Fabienne Wohlwend claimed the second spot on the podium.

Chadwick is currently in the form of her life — riding the momentum of five consecutive wins — and will see this as the perfect opportunity to improve on her P3 Silverstone finish in 2021.

“I’ve never had a run of results like this so I’ve got to take a lot of confidence with that,” she told GiveMeSport Women ahead of the race weekend.

Chadwick is unbeaten so far this season, having notched back-to-back wins during the double header in Miami, followed by a third at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Her trio of victories came in tow of further success during a double header weekend. Last season, Chadwick rounded off her winning campaign with consecutive victories at the Circuit of the Americas in the final round.

With two Championship titles under her belt already, the Brit is in a strong position to challenge for a third this season. But for now, the reigning champion’s focus is entirely on Silverstone this weekend.

“Last year definitely feels like the one that got away,” the 24-year-old said. “Alice was definitely the worthy winner, I didn’t have the pace of her over that weekend.

“So I think this year if we can go in with the momentum that we’ve got from this season already, combined with a little bit of more preparation, I’m hoping we can go a few better and get that win I wanted last year.”

British talent at Silverstone

As it stands, W Series has an all-British top three in the current drivers’ standings. Chadwick leads the pack with a flawless 75 points so far, with Abbi Pulling and Alice Powell behind her in second and third respectively.

As well as the leading trio, Jessica Hawkins, Sarah Moore and Abbie Eaton will also be flying the flag for the Brits at Silverstone this weekend. As will Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris.

Chadwick, who is gunning for her first win at Silverstone, also hopes a British driver will come out on top in the F1 Grand Prix on Sunday.

She went on to talk about how much it would mean to win a home Grand Prix, especially with friends and family in attendance.

“Every race you compete in, you want the best results possible, but obviously at your home country it’s going to be a little bit more special.

“But I’m going to keep the same approach, do the best I can and it will just be the icing on the cake if I can get that top step.”

The third round of W Series, the British Grand Prix, gets underway at Silverstone on Saturday, July 2nd.
