Crystal Palace have been tipped to reinforce two key positions this summer by Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Eagles enjoyed a successful maiden campaign under the tutelage of manager Patrick Vieira throughout 2021/22 and could look to make further additions to their first-team squad over the coming months.

What is the latest news involving Palace?

Vieira began his Palace revolution in impressive fashion, bringing in the likes of Michael Olise, Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen, while allowing several veterans to depart.

The south London outfit had the oldest squad in the Premier League in 2020/21, with the average age being 28.8, but that figure dropped to 26.9 last term.

And the French tactician is set to continue the overhaul of his playing staff, with The Guardian revealing that Palace are closing in on the signature of RC Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

It’s believed that the capital club have agreed upon an initial fee worth £18 million with the Ligue 1 outfit, potentially rising to £22m with add-ons.

Doucoure will add to the acquisition of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone following his arrival on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion should he complete the switch alongside Malcolm Ebiowei.

What has Bridge said about Crystal Palace?

Palace have been credited with an interest in several other players alongside Doucoure, though, and Bridge believes there are two main areas Vieira will be targeting reinforcements in.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think a right-back, and potentially a striker. I don't think Palace will go mad this summer. I think they've done a lot of good business over the last year or so.

“They might need one or two more bodies in, but ultimately, they're not really worried too much at the moment. So, I think it's a wait and see with Palace, they're not really too worried yet.”

Who else could Crystal Palace sign?

BBC Sport reported that Palace are eager to bring Aaron Wan-Bissaka back to the club on a season-long loan deal after falling down the pecking order at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Football Insider have claimed that Vieira’s charges have seen a £4m bid rejected by Peterborough United for their highly-rated young centre-back Ronnie Edwards.

And another potential defensive addition could come in the shape of Bayern Munich’s Chris Richards after The Athletic revealed the 22-year-old is also on Palace’s radar.

It’s an exciting time to be a Palace fan with the club making great strides under Vieira, and they will be hoping to build on the solid foundations set last season.
