John Cena’s return to WWE this week had many fans asking when we’d see Cena back in action, and a new report has outlined the current plans for SummerSlam. 

On Monday Night Raw, Cena returned to WWE TV for the first time since last year’s SummerSlam defeat to Roman Reigns, as the WWE icon celebrated the twentieth anniversary of his famous WWE debut against Kurt Angle. 

Throughout the show Cena was shown chatting to several current WWE stars including The Street Profits, Seth Rollins and most interestingly Theory. Someone who we’ve seen Cena wage war with across social media in recent months. 

The sixteen-time world champion then took to the ring to address the fans and thank them for their support during his two decades in WWE. Adding that he doesn’t know when he’ll back in a WWE ring again. 

Many had expected the 45-year-old to be part of this year’s SummerSlam event, with WWE pulling out all the stops to sell out the big stadium show.

Already announced is the latest chapter in Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar’s rivalry, as they meet in a Last Man Standing match, but it now seems that Cena won’t be present in Nashville. 

According to Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it now appears that Cena will not be part of this year’s SummerSlam event.

The report says that there were plans at some stage to go with Cena vs Theory, but at this point the Hollywood star isn’t schooled for any further TV dates.

The report also goes on to say that if WWE are still planning for the match, then it could be delayed until WrestleMania 39 next year in LA. 

Theory will be in action this Saturday night has he defends his United States Championship against Bobby Lashley at WWE’s Money in the Bank event in Las Vegas.
