British GP: Alex Albon has eyes on Q2 as Williams bring upgrades to Silverstone

Alex Albon has said he’s eyeing a Q2 spot in the Williams this afternoon in qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

The Williams team are on home turf, like many others this weekend, and Albon, though racing under a Thai flag, can also count this as a home race with him half British.

Indeed, he was born in this country and, in racing for one of the classic British teams this weekend, he’ll be eager to secure a decent result.

Whether points are possible remains to be seen, of course, but there seems at least a chance that the team will be quicker this weekend than they have been of late, with them bringing significant upgrades to his car.

And, that said, Albon believes he has seen enough to suggest he is going to be there or thereabouts in terms of the Q2 fight this afternoon:

“If you look at it on a more and ones-and-zeroes point of view in terms of positioning, Q2 would be an obvious target for us so I think that would be a sensible place to hope for.”

Williams have only put the upgrades on Albon’s car to see how they work compared to Nicholas Latifi, who will run the old-spec Williams.

Asked about that decision, Latifi said it was based purely on championship standing, with Albon earning the right to use the new package first as he is higher in the table.

Both will be aiming to have a positive weekend, though, and there’ll be plenty of Williams fans in the stands looking to cheer them on.
