Katie Boulter says she’s taking inspiration from Emma Raducanu and Leicester City’s historic 2016 Premier League title victory.

The 25-year-old is through to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time and takes on Harmony Tan on Court Two on Saturday for a place in the last 16.

Boulter came from a set down to beat last year’s finalist Karolina Pliskova in round two and dedicated the win to her gran, who passed away earlier this week.

Boulter hoping to defy odds

The British star is a huge Leicester City fan and regularly posts photos of herself at the King Power alongside her grandad.

Speaking about the Foxes’ memorable Premier League triumph back in 2016, Boulter said she hoped she could channel the same mentality.

"I hope I can take a leaf out of their book," she said. "They were something else. Maybe I can hopefully create that this year."

Boulter is also a big England fan and joked 12 months ago that she hoped her matches at the All England Club didn’t clash with Gareth Southgate’s team’s fixtures at Euro 2020.

This year, the Brit has been spotted wearing the new Lionesses shirt around SW19 ahead of Euro 2022 on home soil this summer.

Emulating Raducanu

While Leicester defied 5000/1 odds to win the Premier League, Raducanu’s victory at the US Open last September was equally as astonishing.

The teenager won her maiden Grand Slam as a qualifier without dropping a set and Boulter says that win made her reconsider what is possible to be achieved.

"She came out, she surprised everyone, and she played some fearless tennis," said Boulter.

"That's what's so impressive. I hope I can go out there and do the same thing. I'd love to do what she's done. You never know, one day it might happen."

Who is Boulter?

Boulter is currently ranked outside the top 100, but will not rise any places after this competition, since Wimbledon are not awarding ranking points.

The 25-year-old has also been in a relationship with fellow tennis star Alex De Minaur for more than two years.

De Minaur is also into the third round at Wimbledon and will play Britain’s Liam Broady on Saturday.

Broady joked that he wouldn’t blame his British compatriot for cheering on his opponent, but stressed that he feels confident ahead of the match.

"I won't judge her if she sits in 'Demon's' [De Minaur’s] box. She kind of has to, doesn't she?," Broady said.

"I know his game pretty well. He's a fantastic player. He's very good on the grass.

"But I fancy myself against anybody, to be honest."
