Eric Dier's tackle on Sergio Ramos in a UEFA Nations League game in 2018 will go down in English football history.

Gareth Southgate's side travelled to Sevilla as underdogs as they faced an impressive Spanish side.

However, they came away with a 3-2 victory after a quite incredible first half display which still represents some of the finest football we've seen from the national side in many years.

A brace from Raheem Sterling and a Marcus Rashford strike put England 3-0 ahead at half time, with Harry Kane playing an incredible role as a deep-lying striker.

Spain did pull two goals back in the second half but England held out for a famous victory.

But the tone was set in the 11th minute.

The man setting that tone was Dier.

That's because the man playing in a defensive midfield role alongside Harry Winks and Ross Barkley produced a stunning tackle on Spain captain Sergio Ramos early in the game.

Ramos was played the ball inside his own penalty area and if he thought he had a bit of time to play out from the back, he was very wrong.

Dier from about 20 yards away, sprinted towards Ramos and pulled off a crunching challenge that won the ball cleanly and left the defender in a heap.

What. A. Tackle.

Even to this day, fans will reminisce about that tackle on social media:

Much to Dier's disbelief, a free kick was given to Spain and he received a yellow card for going in with too much force.

However, the victim has been guilty of making tackles like that his entire career and even congratulated Dier for his lunge.

The pair squared up momentarily and, after being asked what was said, Dier said Ramos was complimentary.

“Nothing. He just congratulated me,” Dier admitted.

“I just think the ball was there to be won and I think I won it. I don’t think it was a foul or a yellow card, really."

After the match, Sky Sports ran a poll asking England fans for their favourite moment during the brilliant win.

The options were each of the three goals that were scored or Dier's tackle. The latter came out on top with 63.6%.

Dier have have been penalised for his tackle but many clearly loved what they saw. And that includes his then Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino who admitted he was 'proud' of Dier after being asked about the challenge on Ramos.

"Yes of course, very proud," he said.

England supporters may not have been able to celebrate any tournament victories since 1966 but at least we have that Dier tackle on Ramos to remember...
