Man Utd: 'Done deal' for Ten Hag's first signing at Old Trafford

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag celebrates

Manchester United are set to announce the arrival of Tyrell Malacia after the second part of his Old Trafford medical is completed tomorrow, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Feyenoord left-back will become the first signing since Erik ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils’ boss following the conclusion of last season.

What’s the latest news involving Malacia?

Romano has revealed Manchester United have already signed contracts with Feyenoord for the transfer of Malacia.

It is understood that the five-cap Netherlands international was due to fly into England this afternoon to undergo the first stage of his medical, while the remaining tests are scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The Red Devils reached an agreement with Feyenoord earlier in the week, with the Premier League outfit willing to fork out up to £14.6million to acquire Malacia.

The 22-year-old initially looked set to join Ligue 1 outfit Lyon after a bid was accepted, but Manchester United gazumped their offer.

Malacia was a regular fixture in Feyenoord’s backline last season, with him making 50 appearances and registering six goal contributions in the process.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Malacia?

Romano is in no doubt that Malacia will be unveiled as a new Manchester United player imminently.

The transfer guru understands all of the formalities are complete and the only reason his arrival has yet to be announced is because he still has medical tests to undertake.

However, he is not expecting there to be any further problems and, as a result, the Dutchman’s arrival could be made official tomorrow.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Malacia is a done deal. We’re just waiting for the second part of the medical to take place on Monday and then it will be done, but everything is almost completed.”

Why is ten Hag making Malacia his first signing?

Manchester United finished 13 points off the pace as they battled for Champions League qualification last season and a big reason for that is because of their underwhelming defensive record.

Ten Hag has already decided Brandon Williams will not solve his problem, having made the left-back available for £10million, but allowing him to exit Old Trafford could leave the Red Devils light in that area of the pitch.

Which club did Luis Nani start his professional career at?

Luke Shaw, Alex Telles and teenager Alvaro Fernandez would be the Dutchman’s only options, but Malacia has shown he is capable of leaping to the front of the queue.

He registered an average match rating of 7.11 last season and could prove to be a shrewd signing by ten Hag.
